Expect more from
Whistler. I am going to take a big risk and say there is a very zen simplicity (not to be confused with minimalism) in Whistler's paintings which I find to be a paradigm for the
Tonalist school of painting. I could look at this painting a long while without finding any new details but also without feeling the throb of monotony.
All this, of course, is with the exception of Whistler's most famous painting, which, if you want the inside tip, is the
worst painting in the world.
